Anthony Sims Jr. Workout - Photos by Melina Pizano - 08/02/20

About mid-March the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. Understandably it halted not only sports, but all events to prevent further spread of the virus.
Five months later the virus continues to cause a tremendous human and economic impact. Some states have loosened their guidelines. In Los Angeles face masks are required while in essential businesses and outdoors. Non-essential businesses (including gyms) are still closed. You're only able to access a gym if you know someone who owns one.

Athletes continue to workout without knowing when they'll be able to get back to doing what they love. And while sports are slowly starting to come back (without fans in attendance), boxing events are especially limited. With no fans in attendance it limits the number of events each promoter can offer, boxer's purses are reduced, and the choice has to be made which boxers will get an opportunity to be put on a card.

On this day I met with Anthony Sims Jr. to cover his private workout at a fellow boxer's gym. It ended up being just the two of us in the gym which worked out perfectly space-wise (considering the virus.) Despite everything going on, Anthony's spirits were up as he smiled and danced through parts of his workout.
