Estrada vs Beamon - Photos by Melina Pizano/Matchroom Boxing - 08/24/19What a great night of boxing! The fans were some of the best we've heard. No matter what side they came to root for, in the end from the sounds of the cheers you could tell they were there for just a good show of boxing. That they definitely got. On this trip we didn't have a photo editor so Ed focused on covering the fights and like normal I covered the dressing rooms and we each edited our own photos. When I had downtime I would come take photos ringside so Ed could edit and upload. I photographed a couple of rounds of Carroll versus Valenzuela (and came out with a pretty good photo if I may say so myself.) I was supposed to cover Giyasov versus Perez for only a round or two, but Giyasov ko'd Perez in less than 30 seconds! To take the wide arena photo I had to actually go outside to go upstairs (they removed the stairs to the bottom level recently.) It was pretty hot outside, but I still had to run up/down ramps so I could make it back to dressing rooms/ringside as quickly as possible. Finally to the main event. So I didn't have an assigned ringside spot, but was told by PR that I could pick anywhere along the ring opposite of Ed (as we normally do.) When I got there my side was completely full. I worked around it by shooting over the shoulder of a photographer and between the legs of the video camera man standing on the ring. Because of it I missed Beamon getting knocked down, but other than that I'm still happy with the results. At the end it was a little chaotic trying to get Estrada's victory photo. Just a photog note: Someone smudged my camera lens in that process (I didn't notice until afterwards), which is why the last few look a little hazy than the rest. Juan Francisco Estrada defeats Dewayne Beamon by TKO in round 9 to retain the WBC super flyweight title.
