Haney vs Moran - Photos by Melina Pizano/Matchroom Boxing - 05/25/19

On fight nights I typically shoot opposite ringside of our lead photographer, Ed Mulholland. On this particular night we had some last minute adjustments made to accommodate other photographers ringside. While I like being close to the action and shooting ringside, you get the opportunity to be more creative when shooting auxiliary. For the main event I stay in the same elevated spot so I don't miss a thing. However I can be creative with lens choice; shoot wide to show the crowd and arena at key moments or shoot tight when it comes to action. The photo I took that was most frequently used (and even used by Matchroom's Managing Director of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn) was the photo of Haney knocking out Moran. Someone asked if the photo was taken with a remote. It totally could have been. However, we didn't really need a remote considering the perspective of where I was shooting from. Had this been a remote I actually was supposed to be shooting from the other side (I missed the given direction) so the photo would have been only the backs of both boxers. (Sigh of relief on my end.) I was not only able to capture the angle of a remote, but also zoom in to capture celebration/emotion occurring in the corner of the ring.
